shea M... She is nice

Shea Megale, a 12 year old young lady, has spinal muscular atrophy, but that’s just the starting point of her story. Shea has a Canine Companion for Independence (CCI) assist dog named Mercer and she writes stories about Mercer - doing the things she wishes she could do, and beyond. FAO Schwartz bought the rights to the six book series and the first one, entitled Marvelous Mercer, is available now. That name has a real zing to it beyond alliteration. I ordered three for gifts to teachers and our teacher-to-be granddaughter.

In cleaning Shea’s room one day, her mother happened across her diary, and observed that Shea was writing cute stories involving her CCI dog, Mercer. They entered a competition at FAO Schwartz and immediately “won.” In Mercer’s first book, the lab/golden mix does chores for Shea, carries her backpack, picks things up for her, tucks her in at night, and then turns her light off and settles into his kennel- and then the fun begins! Shea personifies the most basic principles of entrepreneurship - the ability to visualize what other people cannot, and the desire to do something about it. The Meagles felt strongly enough about Shea’s writing to enter a competition. They formed a team (editor, illustrator, FAO Schwartz) to get their product to market.
